テスト・アイシクルズのメンバーとして世に知られることになったミュージシャンのサム・メーランが亡くなった。享年31歳だった。

サム・メーランの訃報については、サム・メーランの音源をアウター・リミッツ・レコーディングス名義でリリースしてきたガンクTV・レコーズのザック・マーリングによって現地時間7月29日にソーシャル・メディアで発表されている。死因については現時点で明らかにされていない。

「今後もずっと多くの人にとても惜しまれ、愛されることでしょう」とザック・マーリングは追悼の意を表して、7月29日にインスタグラムに綴っている。「私にとって親友になれて喜ばしかったという意味で、最も才能のあるミュージシャンでした」

「あなたが素晴らしい場所へと旅立ったことは分かっています。忘れられることはないでしょう」

サム・メーランは、現在はブラッド・オレンジ名義で活動するデヴ・ハインズとロリー・アトウェルと共に2004年にテスト・アイシクルズを結成している。

テスト・アイシクルズは2005年10月に、“Boa vs. Python”や“Circle. Square. Triangle”といったシングルを収録したデビュー・アルバム『フォー・スクリーニング・パーパセス・オンリー』をリリースしている。バンドはその後、2006年に解散している。

サム・メーランはその後、前述のアウター・リミッツ・レコーディングスやマトリックス・メタルズ名義でソロの音源をレコーディングしている。彼は2018年発表のシオンのアルバム『O』も共同プロデュースしている。

訃報を受けてミュージシャンやファンからはサム・メーランへの追悼の声がソーシャル・メディアで寄せられている。

Sad to learn of the passing of Sam Mehran today. His music was a big impact on our lives. The moment Josh and I became friends was when I passed onto him, a copy of the Test Icicles album in the school canteen, knowing he’d love it as much as I did.

How Sam wasn’t one of the most famous rockstars was always a total mystery to me. He was the most talented, hilarious, handsome, unique person . I learned SO much from him during the brief time we were making music together. Even though we would spend entire days just talking about music and barely ever making any (mostly Lenny Kravitz, Seal, etc. lol). I just thought he was a total star and wanted to play some kind of supporting role to his genius…I’m basically just a super-fan of his. I’m so thankful for having known him. idk what to say in these situations, but i’m gutted. one of the first people i started my career in pr working for, with katie rush and puro instinct, sam was one of the most talented, humble and genuine there is. a phenomenal producer and amazing person who left a lasting impression on anyone he ever met will truly be missed. wishing the best to all who knew him, family and friends #sammehran
