ニュー・シングル“Tom and Jerry”はジョン・メイヤー単独名義の新曲としては2021年発表のアルバム『ソブ・ロック』以来となっている。

“Tom and Jerry”のリリースにあたってジョン・メイヤーは参加メンバーを紹介しながら次のように述べている。「“Tom and Jerry”はこの曲のアイディアを初めてヴォイスメモに録音した時、使ったタイトルです。『if you ever come through, which I doubt you’ll do, I’ll run away with you（そんなことはしないと思っているけど、もし君が一緒なのであれば、一緒にどこかへ逃げ出そう）』その瞬間から、この感覚を形にするための冒険が始まりました。以前にも言ったことですが、何度でも繰り返させてください。私は、信じられないほど才能豊かで、非常に献身的なアーティストたちと共に仕事をしています。彼らは、思い描いたサウンドが明確になり、まるで一枚の絵のように浮かび上がるまで、決して妥協することはありません。この曲についてもっと詳しく話ししたくてたまりませんが、まずは、この楽曲の制作に携わってくれた素晴らしい仲間たちを紹介させてください」
“Tom and Jerry” was the name I used when saving my first voice memo with this song idea. “And if you ever come through, which I doubt you’ll do, I’ll run away with you.” From that moment on, the adventure began in bringing that feeling to life. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating every time – I get to work with a group of incredibly talented and deeply dedicated artists who will stop at nothing until the sound comes into focus and becomes a picture.
