キング・クリムゾンは1974年発表のアルバム『レッド』の50周年を記念して、リイシュー盤が10月28日にリリースされることが決定している。
2CD＆2Blu-rayから成るリイシュー盤は『レッド』のセッション音源が収録されるもので、オリジナル・テープから「現存するすべての音源が収録される」と謳われている。
CD1にはポーキュパイン・ツリーのスティーヴン・ウィルソンによるアルバムの新たなステレオ・ミックスとインストゥルメンタル・ミックスが収録される。なお、スティーヴン・ウィルソンは2009年にも『レッド』のミックスを一度手掛けている。
「『レッド』で聴けるのは1972年から1974年のラインナップによるスタジオでの最高の成果だと思います」とスティーヴン・ウィルソンは述べている。「事実、パワー・トリオによるアルバムで、そのサウンドは巨大なものです」
CD2には追加のボーナス音源が収録されており、キング・クリムゾンの長年のマネージャーであるデヴィッド・シングルトンが手掛けたエレメンタル・ミックスが収録される。これはオリジナル音源を再解釈したもので、未使用のインストゥルメンタル・トラックやテイクが使われているという。CD2には“Starless”のレコーディングからの別テイクも収録される。
2枚のBlu-rayには1974年のアメリカ・ツアーからブートレッグを修復した音源が様々な音質で収録されている。また、スティーヴン・ウィルソンによるアルバムのドルビーアトモス・ミックス、高音質のエレメンタル・ミックスなども収録される。
また、スティーヴン・ウィルソンによるアルバムの新たなステレオ・ミックスとデヴィッド・シングルトンのエレメンタル・ミックスを収録した2枚組LPもリリースされることが決定している。
